2012 World Team Table Tennis Championships - Wang Yuegu Contributed 2 Critical Points

Wang Yuegu Guides Singapore into the Finals
A hard fought victory against Germany the day before, it is another 3-2 win against South Korea.

Feng Tianwei came on against South Korean number one player and one of the best defender Kim Kyung Ah. It was Kim who gave South Korea a fine start taking the first set 10-12. Feng played patiently in the next two sets winning 15-13, 11-9. However, the vastly experienced Kim was in determined mood. She took the next two sets winning 1-11, 7-11.

In the second match, Wang Yuegu is up against Seok Ha Jung. Throughout the game, there was great rallies and smashes. Wang held her nerve at the critical points and she delivered. Wang won 11-7, 9-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-6.

Li Jiawei who revealed that she did not have enough sleep before the match faltered quickly against Dang Ye Seo. Li lost 11-13, 5-11, 6-11 to give South Korea a 1-2 advantage.

Despite being 1-2 down, Feng Tianwei was confident against Seok Ha Jung in the fourth match. Having not lost to Seok Ha Jung, Feng continued her winning ways 11-5, 11-3, 9-11, 11-8.

Once again, similar to the match against Germany, Wang Yuegu rose to the occassion in the last match to win Kim Kyung Ah 11-7, 7-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-9.

Singapore will play in the Finals tomorrow against title favorites China.

2012 World Team Table Tennis Championships - Li Jiawei, The Heroine

Li Jiawei the Heroine
Singapore was 0-2 down against Host Nation Germany. It was veteran Li Jiawei who managed to keep calm at the crucial moment to turn the tables around and win 3-2!

Germany secured the first point, after defensive specialist Irene Ivancan beat Feng Tianwei 11-8, 11-9, 11-8 in front of a partisan home crowd. German No. 1 player Wu Jiaduo extended the lead after crushing Wang Yuegu 6-11, 9-11, 7-11.

Not affected by the losses of Feng and Wang, Li Jiawei took the first two sets of the 3rd match 11-6, 11-8. Li knew that she had to win the game, but the prssure seems too great for her. She lost the next 2 sets by the narrowest margin 9-11, 9-11. In the final fifth set, Li managed to keep her cool and won 14-12, bringing Singapore back on track.

Feng Tianwei never looked back in the fourth set. She won in 4 games, 9-11, 11-9, 11-4, 12-10. Wang Yuegu secured victory for Singapore by winning a greuling five set duel against Irene Ivancan 9-11, 11-5, 11-13, 11-8, 11-4.

Women's Head Coach Zhou Shusen describe this game as "惊心动魄".

Li Jiawei successfully brought Singapore into the Semi Finals where they will face Korea Reupblic. The Koreans also came back from 0-2 to beat Japan 3-2.

2012 World Team Table Tennis Championships - Sole Point From Yang, Singapore Faltered Against Japan

Yang Zi Serving to Matsudaira Kenji
Hoping to create miracles once again, Head Coach Yang Chuan Ning decided to use the winning formula against elarus once again. But this time it failed.

Mizutani Jun, the Japan's no. 1 male paddler gave his country the perfect start by beating teenager Pang Xuejie 7-11, 6-11, 3-11. In the second match, Youth Olympic Gold Medalist Niwa Koki then beat Gao Ning by the same margin 11-13, 7-11, 11-13. Yang Zi duly delivered his one point, defeating Matsudaira Kenji 11-4, 9-11, 12-10, 11-6 in the third match. However, the one point proved to be only consolation. Gao Ning found no answer to the consistent play of Mizutani in the fouth match. He faltered 7-11, 8-11, 11-7, 12-10, 11-13.

The Men's Team will be fighting for the fifth place.

2012 World Team Table Tennis Championships - Gao Ning Guides the Team to Top 8!

Gao Ning the Hero
A change in line up for the Singapore Team, and the change did miracles. Instead of fielding Yang Zi in the 2nd singles and Pang Xuejie in the third singles, Head Coach Yang Chuan Ning decided to switch it around. And it works!

Youngster Pang Xuejie was the first player into the arena. In a match against the World No. 13, Vladimir Samsonov, Pang Xuejie was unable to offer a good start for Singapore. Pang lost in three straight games 11-2, 11-3, and 11-6.

Pang's lost seems to have affected Gao Ning. He scumbbled quickly to Evgueni Chtchetinine 5-11 in the first set. Gao managed to calm his nerves and levelled matters at 1-all, posting a 11-6 win. However, the Belarus player once again found his control and posted a 5-11 victory. The fourth and most intense set went to Gao Ning 11-9 and Gao wrap things up at 11-3 in the fifth and last set to level things at 1-all.

Yang Zi came into the 3rd game well prepared. He was trailing 6-9 in the 1st set but never gave up. He turned the tables around to win 11-9. Yang became more confident and posted another victory in the 2ns set, 11-6. Just as everyone thought that Yang Zi was going to take the 3rd set, Belorussian surprised the crowd with a 9-11 win. In the nail biting 5th set, both players were unable to establish a convincing lead. At the crucial stage, he was Yang Zi who was more consistent. He won 15-13.

The fourth match was a battle between the no. 1 players from both sides, Gao Ning and Vladimir Samsonov. Gao Ning was in unforgiving mood. He posted a 3-0 victory against the veteran 11-8, 11-8 13-11.

The win earned Singapore a place in the Quarter Finals where they will play Japan tomorrow. This is the first time in history that the Men's Team had gotten into the Quarter Finals!
